1. When reviewing, don't tell the student. Ask the student to tell you or demonstrate what the student learned before.

1.1 Teach and demonstrate only the correct technique. Don't teach the wrong way to cast by demonstrating bad technique. This leaves the student with a memory of two different ways that were demonstrated and the student will generally forget which is the good way and which is the bad way. Effective sales people and teachers know this.

1.2 The exception to the above rule is when teaching teachers and salespeople - who will be taking notes and must know the right way from the wrong way in order to pass a test and/or be effective and/or get a job.

1.3 The student will learn more from performing than from listening to you.

1.4 Teach one thing at a time. If you dont believe this teach two or three things together and then, when you think you have succeeded, have the students perform without prompting. Once in awhile you will run across a student who is that good but don't hold your breath waiting.

1.5 Teach in a spiral. Each time you resume instruction have the students prove to you - as much as they can - what they know from previous lessons. When you and they together have reconstructed this spiral of learning then they are ripe for the next step.

1.6 Have the students teach and evaluate one another. This forces them to perform and evaluate and teach themselves. Every different way you can induce them to run the material through their brain box makes more of it stick. This also helps to overcome unexpected understaffing.

1.7 Create associations between the matter being taught and something you have taught previously. You knew this.

2. Basic casting course.

3, Intermediate casting course

4. Advanced casting course.

5. Tournament skills.

6. A collection of teaching tricks and routines that allow the student to progress.
