SPORT CASTING SINGAPORE 2ND ANNUAL CONTEST RESULTS June 20, 2000 Sport Fishing Association (Singapore) has posted the results of its" 2000 games. There are distance games and Skish like games, patterned on the ICF model. The five .60 meter water dish targets are in a diagonal line from 8 to 13 meters from the casting box and the caster casts twice to each target before moving to the next. This goes on for two rounds of five targets. Five points are awarded for eachhit with a total possible score of 100. The tackle is fishing tackle only for both target and distance except that there is one distance event "Competition rod and modified line" where specialized equimpment may be used for distance. The overall champion's score consists of the sum of the accuracy score and the two longest distance casts, at one point per meter of distance. Accuracy ties are broken by the time taken to complete the 20 targets. Overall Champion, Mohd Amin Bin Rahmat, 211.5 Pt. Accuracy: 1. Mario TagLiante, 60; 2. Mohd Amin Bin Rahmat, 40 Pt. in 2.42 min.; 3. Josph Loo, 40 Pt in 3.79 min. Distance: 1. Mohd Amin Bin Rahmat, 34.30 meters; 2. Lim Wee Kwang, 32.97, 3. Tan Liang hua, 29.61. Competition rod and modified line Champion: Joseph Loo, 44.53. There was also a Hole in One event with concentric 10 cm and 60 cm target rings with 5 points for the 10 cm and 1 point for the 60 cm for three rounds. Hole in one champion Joseph Loo. Sport Fishing Association (Singapore)has a nice web site with complete results, pictures of the winners and tackle and game rules. We are hoping to get more information about the fly fishing scenearound Singapore . The flies used in the games are streamer types and it must be that salt water is where the action is.

Youngsters win Florida State Casting Championships A field of seven professional and seven amateur Casting Champions came together for a final cast-off at the 1999 Florida Sportsman Fishing Show in Orlando on November 7, and when it was all said and done, 10-year-old Nick Cardella of Delray Beach and 15-year-old Dan Lehnert of Jupiter each walked away with $2,000 in cash and a huge glass trophy, not to mention the bragging rights of beating out over 1,500 adult and youth competitors in the second annual Florida State Casting Championship. The 14 finalists had already won rod-reel combos from Shakespeare, Star Rods, and Redington Rods and a year's supply of Ande line, during preliminary tournaments held at Florida Sportsman shows in Jacksonville, Ft. Walton Beach, Tampa, Miami, West Palm Beach, Ft. Myers and Orlando. Cardella qualified as a professional because he ties and markets his own fly pattern, the Feathered Friend. Asked about the prize money, the four-foot, three-inch fifth grader says he's in the market for a boat that he can use in the West Palm Beach freshwater canal system near the new home his family is building. "We have the trophy sitting on the dining room table for now," said Nick, "but Mom says we have to move it pretty soon because it takes up almost the whole table." Cardella holds a current IGFA world record on Mozambique Tilapia. Lehnert qualified for the amateur finals at the West Palm Show in September, when he scored highest in the spin and plug division, but when he stepped to the podium at the finals, both fly attempts landed in the target and an astonished Dan fell to his knees. "I fly fish a lot," said Lehnert. "At least every weekend with my friends, but I never thought I could compete with all these great casters." Lehnert says snook are his favorite fish, by far, and his best snook to date is a 12-pounder caught on a cut sardine planing across the surface on retrieval. Both champions were seen high-fiving and hugging their dads immediately after the winners were announced, each wearing a two-thousand dollar smile. The above dispatch is courtesy of Robin Smillie of Florida Sportsman Magazine. The complete rules of the contest can be found at FLORIDA SPORTSMAN SHOWS
In a nutshell the contestants get two casts each with a fly rod, a revolving spool bait rod and a spinning rod at a target with three rings and a cup in the center. The total score from these six shots is the score. The results from last year's championships are recorded elsewhere in this column with other 1988 casting games results.
RESULTS OF JIMMY GREEN INTERNATIONAL CASTING GAMES Asotin, Washington, October 16 & 17, 1999 account written by Charles Davis On October 16 and 17 the Jimmy Green casting games were held in Asotin, Washington. There was quite a turnout for the event. There were participants from all over the west coast, including California. the events included trout fly accuracy, anglers distance (both for single hand rod) single spey, double spey and two hand overhead all with two hand rods. Both women and men competed in the competition, women against women and men against men. At the end of the competition everyones distances were totaled up. Prizes were awarded to the persons with the longest distance in each event and to the persons who had the highest point total in the trout accuracy game. Also the top five casters from each region made up three teams, West, South and East. At the end of the games each of these persons highest points were totaled and the team with the highest overall distance total won. There is much more to these casting games than just casting and trying to be the one who cast the furthest. All the new people I met and they all seem to have their own style of casting and stories to go along with that particular style they used. There were also some great fishing stories told by some and some interesting tales on how a few got started in fly fishing and casting. There was also the unselfish instruction you could get from the casting professionals that were also at the event - People like Jim and Carol Green, Steve and Tim Rajeff, Al Buhr, Ed Ward, Jerry Siem and Stan Hendrickson. After each days events there was a dinner at Jimmy and Carol Green's house. Along with great food there was great conversation with old and new friends and it was a great place to relax after the days events. There's also another game that goes on at the same time the casting games are going on - real fishing for Snake, Clearwater and Grand Ronde steelhead. This year the fishing was average with just enough fish coming up the Snake and its tributaries to keep you always on the river for the evening rise.
